FIA unveil final 2014 F1 calendar without New Jersey, Mexico or South Korea

The Formula One calendar will stay limited to 19 grand prix in 2014, with races in Korea, New Jersey and Mexico all failing to make the final cut.

While all three grand prix had been included on a provisional 22 race calendar, which was first published in September, they will each miss out on a spot on the definitive 2014 calendar, which was confirmed on Wednesday by the FIA World Motorsport Council.

With the race around Port Imperial in New Jersey having already been postponed by a year, the little-used Yeongam Circuit, host to the Korean Grand Prix facing financial problems and Mexico’s Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez needing refurbishment to bring it up to current Formula One standard, having last held the Mexican Grand Prix in 1992, it was unlikely that any would feature on the final calendar.

Despite this, in 2014 Formula One will see two additions to the calendar, with a return to Austria’s redeveloped Red Bull Ring after an absence of ten years, while also making an inaugural visit to Russia, where the Sochi Olympic Park will play host to the first Russia Grand Prix in the history of the sport.

The season will commence in Australia on March 16th, and will conclude in Abu Dhabi on November 23rd, with the Gulf state taking the place of the Brazilian Grand Prix, which has been host to the final round of the season for the last three years, with Brazil instead set to be the penultimate race of 2014
