Andre Lotterer says he rejected an offer from Caterham to drive at the F1 season finale in Abu Dhabi.
The three time Le Mans winner, who made a one-off appearance for Caterham at this year’s Belgian Grand Prix, revealed that he was offered a drive with the team for the upcoming race at the Yas Marina Circuit, but that he turned it down.
“I’m flattered because you don’t get the call to do F1 every day,” Lotterer told AUTOSPORT.
“The one-off at Spa was a great thing for me to do, but to do more would have to have been in a better situation – I don’t want to be a guy driving around at the back.
“If I could see opportunities in F1 to gain a better seat, it might be different, but it doesn’t look like that.”
Kamui Kobayashi will race for the returning Caterham team in Abu Dhabi, with the team expected to announce who will fill the second seat “in due course”.
