Ferrari escapes punishment for Raikkonen pit release

G.P. AUSTRALIA F1/2015

Ferrari has escaped punishment from the FIA after releasing Kimi Raikkonen without his left-rear tyre safely attached during the Australian Grand Prix.

Raikkonen had appeared set for a fifth place finish before he was forced into retirement after a problem at his second pit stop.

Ferrari faced an investigation from the race stewards in Australia for an unsafe release, but the FIA accepted the team’s explanation that Raikkonen’s car was not released in an unsafe condition.

“The team explained that the system used to monitor the pitstops gave no indication that the car was in an unsafe condition when released and the team caused the driver to stop immediately [once] the problem was apparent from the driver and telemetry,” read a statement released by the stewards.

“The team had paid close attention to the telemetry after the actions of the team members involved in the pitstop and further that the FIA technical delegate accepted the car was not in an unsafe condition when released. The stewards took no further action.”
