Daniel Ricciardo admits it hurt being lapped by former team-mate Sebastian Vettel during the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Vettel used a two stop tyre strategy to beat Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg and secure his first win for Ferrari at the Sepang International Circuit.
During the closing stages of the race Vettel caught and lapped the two Red Bull cars of Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo, who were running at the edge of the points in ninth and tenth.
“Yeah that’s the icing on the cake,” Ricciardo said on the subject of Vettel’s win.
“Congrats to Seb but getting lapped by him wasn’t the best feeling in the world.”
Both Red Bull drivers battled with brake issues during the race, and Ricciardo says he felt helpless in the car.
“Not exciting, just helpless to be honest, I feel like I come in fired up and ready to go and it was just hard to put up a fight today,” he explained. “We had a few other issues here and there which sort of hindered us in a fight.
“It’s frustrating, I feel I want to battle and have some fun but every time we did it was just had to pay consequences for trying, and I was just driving around and not really getting much out of it. Yeah, it was a long day.”
