Nico Rosberg is confident that Mercedes will be the team to beat in the Chinese Grand Prix, despite losing out to Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari in Malaysia two weeks ago.
Vettel used a two-stop strategy to beat the two Mercedes team-mates of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, and record his maiden victory for Ferrari, on just his second start for the Scuderia.
Despite the disappointment of Malaysia, Rosberg is expecting Mercedes to be back on top form in China this weekend.
“I want to win, so of course having Sebastian win in Malaysia was not good,” Rosberg told reporters in Shanghai on Thursday. “I hope to beat him and Lewis here, and that’s it.
“I’m sure also here we will have a stronger car than in Malaysia. I’m expecting us to be the best again here.”
Rosberg acknowledged that Vettel’s win had come as a surprise, but had served to push Mercedes to improve.
“It was a shock to us,” he admitted. “A shock might be too harsh a word but close to that anyway because we didn’t expect it at all.
“We were very, very confident that we were the quickest, so it was very surprising and definitely a big wake-up call for us.
“You can really feel it in the team, it’s given us a fresh impulse which is also good for us because it will push us to higher things.”
