Hamilton completes China practice clean sweep

Lewis Hamilton completed a clean sweep as he topped final practice for the Chinese Grand Prix.

Hamilton, fastest in both sessions on Friday, posted a lap of 1:37.615 on the soft Pirelli tyres to beat his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg by a quarter of a second.

The two Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen were third and fourth, with Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo fifth, at the head of an incredibly close midfield, covered by just half a second.

Daniil Kvyat was sixth for Red Bull, ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr. in the lead Toro Rosso.

Valtteri Bottas ended the session eight fastest for Williams, while Max Verstappen and Romain Grosjean rounded out the top ten, ninth and tenth for Toro Rosso and Lotus respectively.

Williams’ Felipe Massa was 11th, using an older specification front wing after he damaged the team’s new one in an off on Friday, with Nico Hulkenberg 12th for Force India.

Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr were 13th and 14th for Sauber, ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button, and Pastor Maldonado in the second Lotus.

Force India’s Sergio Perez was 17th, while Will Stevens and Roberto Merhi rounded out the order for Manor.

Fernando Alonso failed to set a time for McLaren owing to a suspected Honda engine problem.
