Rosberg tops opening morning of in-season testing in Spain

Nico Rosberg ended the opening morning of in-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya fastest for Mercedes.

The Spanish Grand Prix winner clocked a 1:24.374 to top the timesheets ahead of the lunchtime break, with 78 laps on the board.

Raffaele Marciello was second on his first morning at the wheel of the Ferrari SF15-T, 2.274s shy of Rosberg’s fastest time.

Pastor Maldonado ended the morning third for Lotus, ahead of Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat.

Pierre Gasly was fifth fastest for Toro Rosso, as he got his first taste of Formula 1 machinery, with Sauber regular Marcus Ericsson sixth.

Nick Yelloly, like Gasly, made his Formula 1 debut on Tuesday morning, ending up seventh quickest for Force India.

Long-time McLaren tester Oliver Turvey was eighth at the wheel of the Honda-powered MP4-30, while Felipe rounded out the order for Williams.
